Hmmm.... Could you use tea instead of coffee? I can't stand the smell of coffee.
Really old books usually have leather covers. You can get leather and suede and faux fabrics similar to leather at any sort of fabric store. Or if your using some other sort of fabric you could fade it in the sun to give it more of an aged look.
I just had another idea! To get wrinkled pages you could put the books in the dryer. That would work wouldn't it? Ok now I have some experimenting to do!

Yeah like in the picture it originaly had a hard color....but it didnt last threw the work, so i removed the little sliver of peper that was still intached and looked for a while befor i saw the fabric, and then hunted down dubble sided tape.
I had absulutly no luck with tea, didnt do anything at all to the paper.other than make it smell like tea, it gave it a very very very light color and it whould have teken me days just to get one page to look right

Hmmm. You can't submerge paper like you can submerge fabric....
I'll try it and see if some strong black tea works. What kind of tea did you use?

We have a lot of different teas, but I don't drink them. They taste like wood, like I put wood in the kettle (or cup, depending) and boiled it up good. Blech!
I've yet to actually do this to an entire book, I'm such a slacker.

Well, actually, we were talking about doing things other than drinking the tea. Or coffee, or what have you.

So I've finally tried this out!
I used an old pair of jeans for the cover of my book. I cut off the back and the pockets are the cover. I had a bunch of tea so I tested them all out and I found that orange and chamomile worked the best. I mixed both of those and then mixed some very very strong coffee with that.
I laid my paper flat on the counter and covered it with the tea-coffee mix, let it sit for about 20 minutes, flipped it and covered it again. Then after another 20min I took the paper to a dry surface and blow dried it for a crinkled-edge look.
It turned out awesome! I sewed the paper into the jeans and viola! Book!

Curious to see what the finished product would look like.

When I have a free minute in the next week or so, I'll post a few photos of the finished book.
