In the fall I will be attending school for an associate's degree in visual arts and later a bachelor's degree in interior design.
As you can probably tell, I'm into decorating and designing. In fact, I love it!!
I know a lot of people who are into decorating their homes in interesting ways, how do you design?

Well, I won't really have a coice of anything this fall when I move into my dorm room. PEOPLE BETTER COME STAY SOME WEEKENDS!! (Musicnote, Abstract, Jeff...) But I do like Green if any of my room mates are reading considering i don't know who they are yet!

You can make requests for room mates. Like if you know other people that will be going, you can make a request that they be your room mate. I think that it would be a smart way to do things, that way you don't ever have to worry about not liking them or if they will steal your things (tons of horror stories about theiving room mates) Hopefully they'll let you decorate it all nice like.

And if not you can beat them down. J/k unless you really feel that strongly about it that is.
I love moving the furniture around in my room, mostly around 1am, and I am currently suffering furniture moving withdrawls because I got a new tv for xmas and now I can't move my furniture because the tv has to stay in the same spot because of the cable hookup and my room is so miniscule the only thing that can be moved is the book case. From the east wall to the north wall and a little farther west on the north wall and thats about it. Also even if my tv were movable I believe I have tried every possible furniture postition my room will allow.
I was so excited when I thought we were going to move, I would have the biggest bedroom and be able to move stuff to my hearts content but then my designing dreams were crushed and I'm stuck in the same old room. As you can see by my ranting about my own room I like to design I just don't think I could do it for other people. I highly doubt there are enough people out there who would like my tastes enough to sustain my paycheck if I were and interior designer.

Sadly enough i would have had the second biggest bedroom, and my painting dreams were crushes as well...i would have enjoyed purple and green striped walls...*sigh* alas we are not moving, and my faja will not permit me to paint my current room, and i am REALLY REALLY sick of pink...

Encourage your mom to look for a replacement strip, I'm sure she'll find something that better suits the scheme.

We live in an apartment (me and my fiance) so we cant paint the walls, or get new carpet, or rally anything. So moving furniture is all we can do. We also have a little bit of a deli-ma, i have a pet ray and i have to be careful where i put his cage, cant be by the heater or the air conditioner. But i do have some tips! Lights are wonderful, and your best friend when you want to add colors and depth to your walls. Simply adding a floor light in the corner helps allot. Colored lights add colors to the room and walls, and are sometimes allot better than a regular ceiling light. If you want to add actual colors and textures to your walls just get a light or bold color fabric and pin it up in your corners and lay it hang a little this works very well if you have statues and no shelfs, you can put them on a table and put fabric and Christmas lights behind the fabric. The only shelves i have are the white metal ugly ones you hang up yourself. Make fabric covers for them. Makes lots of them, change them out seasonally. If you cant paint the walls or put lights or curtains up, make up for it with bold sheets and paint your dresser. Lots of throw pillows and blankets. Unique furniture is always a fun thing to have. It will help draw attention away from the lack of colors on the walls. Bathrooms are pretty easy really. Just get matching towels , rugs , seat covers, and shower curtains of mix it up a little and have just coordinating colors. I also have pictures of my pets taking baths or cleaning themselves/each other to go with the bathroom scene.
I think this is enough information really. To the person who has a fung shi thing going on. There are lots of web sites about it. The room needs all 4 elements in it though, Earth Fire Water Air, they can be represented by color or by objects, like having rocks in the room, and candles thats earth and fire, air can simply be a light blue color or insents. Water...well have a pet fish? Also each element has its own direction, so you will need to make sure each wall has the right elements on it. Also pictures of family's and friends are musts!
Wow...i know a whole lot of almost useless information.

I made a lamp recently. Unique and unusual pieces are not only excellent accents for a room, but also wonderful conversation pieces.

I re-arranged my room the other day. Now I have bruises. I hung up a lamp that I got way back at Christmas time. It's hanging in one corner and it has blue fringe on it. Now I have a giant poster I had to take down because it was in the way of my bed and now I have no suitable wall to hang it on.
